Winning Students 100 aquatics stars compete on world stage in Singapore
6 August 2025
A talented cohort of Winning Students 100-supported aquatics athletes competed at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore last week.
University of Stirling swimmer Angharad Evans, who only made her senior GB debut last year, placed fifth in the women’s 200m breaststroke.
She also joined the relay foursome in both the heats and final of the Women’s 4x100m Medley. Swimming alongside Lauren Cox, Emily Richards and Freya Anderson, Angharad contributed to an eight place finish as the squad improved on their qualifying time by over a second.
Team mate Holly McGill finished 10th in the women’s 200m backstroke in what was her World Championships debut, missing out in the final by just 0.42.
Keanna MacInnes, who studies at Forth Valley College, swam a lifetime best and broke her own Scottish Record for 100m butterfly on the opening day of the swimming competition, while a virus impacted the 200m butterfly for the top British female fly swimmer.
Stirling swimmer Katie Shanahan took on the 200m IM and the 200m backstroke and was part of the 4x100m mixed medley relay before having to withdraw from events due to illness.
Taking on her fifth World Championships and demonstrating incredible longevity in the sport was University of Edinburgh diver Grace Reid, who narrowly missed out on the final in the individual 3m springboard.
Singapore also hosts the World Para Swimming Championships in September, which will see Winning Students 100 para-swimmer Faye Rogers, who trains at the University of Aberdeen, compete.
